Schaalsee, a 24 km² lake in northern Germany, is the centerpiece of the UNESCO‑designated Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve. Straddling the border between Schleswig‑Holstein and Mecklenburg‑Western Pomerania, the lake and its surrounding landscape offer crystal‑clear water, extensive forests, meadows and a rich variety of wildlife.
